About

Energy Transition Preparedness Initiative (ETPI) is a multi-sectoral, multi-state endeavour to understand state-level plans, actions, and governance processes towards an energy transition. ETPI aims to build understanding around critical political-economy and institutional aspects of the transition as a necessary complement to the techno-economic discourse. With comparable analysis across states and over time, ETPI documents progress, highlights good practices, and underscores lessons from the different transition trajectories in states.

ETPI - a collaborative effort by the Prayas (Energy Group), Sustainable Futures Collaborative and WRI India - uses an indicator-based assessment framework and in-depth case studies to explain state-level trends and practices in energy transition. The analysis covers three energy-intensive sectors – electricity, buildings and transport with a set of cross cutting indicators and 10 states - Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.

This dashboard presents the results of ETPI indicator-based assessment covering 24 indicators of three sectors – electricity, buildings, and transport – and crosscutting aspects. The results are presented in form of indicator-wise charts with scores for each state. These results represent the state of progress and preparedness on specific aspects of energy transition and should be seen collectively to understand broader state-level transition preparedness. While each indicator represents a critical aspect of the transition, they do not have equal weightage. Therefore, the scores should not be used to rank states.
